The job of the Student Intern I Instructional Aide is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program within and outside of the assigned classroom with specific responsibility for working with individual and/or small groups of students to reinforce instruction, monitor performance, and support learning; performing a variety of instructional and classroom management supports; supervising students outside of the classroom; and performing clerical tasks to support teacher/s and staff.

Reports to the Peer to Peer teacher and program instructional aides
Essential Functions
- First Aid Administration: Administer first aid as instructed by a health care professional to meet immediate health care needs.
- Student Assistance: Assist students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments, such as reading stories, listening to students read, providing writing assistance, reinforcing English lessons, and facilitating activities for practicing and reinforcing learning concepts.
- Classroom Support: Assist teachers in adapting classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives.
- Meeting Participation: Attend meetings and in-service presentations on topics such as technology to assist students, child development, instructional strategies and practices, and student behavior to acquire and convey information relative to job functions.
- Communication: Communicate with teachers and students to assist in meeting instructional objectives and programming, including alerting teachers to individual student needs, keeping teachers informed of student progress, and planning activities with teachers.
- Material Management: Maintain classroom supplies, materials, work area, and manual and electronic files and records to ensure availability of items, provide written references, maintain a safe learning environment, and meet mandated requirements.
- Student Monitoring: Monitor individual and groups of students in various settings, such as the classroom, playground, field trips, library, lunchroom, and bus loading/unloading, to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Instruction: Provide small group instruction under the supervision of the classroom teacher in subjects such as math, reading, social skills, and self-care to ensure student learning.
- Incident Reporting: Report observations and incidents relating to specific students, such as accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, rule violations, and safety conditions, to communicate information to appropriate instructional and administrative personnel.
- Emergency Response: Respond to emergency situations, such as injured students, fights, and school drills, to resolve immediate safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Teacher Support: Support classroom teachers and other school personnel in implementing curriculum and teaching methodologies.
- Student Support: Assist students with classroom assignments, tests, homework, and make-up work, and monitor students engaged in independent study, enrichment, or remedial work to support teachers in the instructional process.
- Other Functions: Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the classroom and school.

Responsibilities
Work under direct supervision using standardized routines. Assist in maintaining a safe and productive work environment. Support the goals and objectives of the department. Handle tasks and responsibilities assigned in a timely and efficient manner. Provide input and feedback to improve department processes.
Work Environment
The role generally involves sitting for 60%, walking for 20%, and standing for 20% of the time. Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling may be required. Some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling may be necessary. Significant fine finger dexterity is required. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
Experience
Current BPS high school student who has completed 2 years of involvement with Peer-to-Peer Leadership.
Education
Junior or Senior year in High School
Clearances
Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
